By Jen Tidwell, AWC Volunteer

This month, I had the pleasure of styling Tahiti: a chef, caterer, and entrepreneur who is passionate about feeding others, especially those experiencing food insecurity.

A Hurtful Comment, and a Clear Next Step

Tahiti is outgoing, friendly, upbeat, and deeply nurturing toward others. So when she shared an interaction with a coworker who told her he “didn’t like her outfit,” I was appalled by the rude and inappropriate comment. Tahiti explained she had been wearing a shirt borrowed from her husband and some khakis — and while no outfit ever warrants such a remark, I knew we needed to find her clothing that felt both appropriate and professional.

A Wardrobe That Reflects Her Strength

I’m happy to report that we found Tahiti a variety of flattering pieces, including dresses, suits, separates, accessories, and comfortable shoes. The outfit we’re showcasing this month is a stunning three-piece chocolate brown pantsuit with subtle gold embroidery.

A favorite Gem by Jen:

A monochromatic outfit (a head-to-toe look in one color) creates an elongated silhouette. It forms a single, unbroken line that not only adds polish but also gives the illusion of added height.

Style, Gratitude, and a Thoughtful Return

Tahiti is an enthusiastic and appreciative person who radiates joy with her megawatt smile. She left with two large bags of clothing — but that wasn’t the last we’d see of her that day. The thoughtful and generous chef returned with wraps, salads, and treats for everyone at the Hub!

But Tahiti still had more gratitude to share. She later sent me the following email:

“I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible experience of being styled by you through the Styled By Jen program.  Your kindness, professionalism, and keen eye for fashion have made a lasting impression on me, and I am truly honored to have participated.

Being selected to participate was not only uplifting but transformational.  For years, I have struggled to find clothing that truly reflects who I am — clean, beautiful, professional, and confident.  Thanks to your generous support and style expertise, I now feel empowered and proud of the image I present to the community. The clothing you provided has been thoughtfully curated to fit both my body and my spirit, and I couldn’t be more thankful.”
