Summer of Service 2023

Calling the class of 2024!

The A Wider Circle (AWC) Summer Service volunteer program will give rising high school seniors the unique opportunity to spend the summer working behind the scenes with AWC staff.

Program participants will obtain job skills, increase their knowledge on the important issue of poverty, help their neighbors in the DMV community, and have a fun and memorable summer of service experience. The close interaction with the staff of AWC will give program participants the chance to gain valuable experience.

Requirements
A candidate for the Summer of Service program must be a rising senior with a strong work ethic; have an interest in community service and leadership; exhibit maturity; and have a positive attitude.

Commitment
Program participants will commit to at least 3 days of service per week, serving a total of at least fifteen hours of service per week.

Length of Service
The A Wider Circle Summer of Service program will take place from June 26 – July 28, 2023

Position

Volunteer Program Assistant
This position involves assisting A Wider Circle Volunteer Staff with daily responsibilities and ongoing projects.

Responsibilities include assisting with leading volunteers, sorting donations and stocking the showroom, administrative duties, working on ongoing projects, and taking the lead on select projects with the support of volunteer team staff. On average, A Wider Circle is able to furnish 10-20 homes free of charge each day for our neighbors in need.

The ideal candidate should have a passion for leadership, community service, and professional development. Strong communication skills, the willingness to learn new skills, and the ability to take direction are a must.

Training
Basic orientation and training will take place during the first week of the program. Ongoing training will be provided by the program participant’s supervisors.

Support
All program participants will meet with their supervisor daily to obtain their assignments and to get feedback and assistance with assignments that have proven challenging.
