On Saturday, June 28, the Washington Highlands Community Center (near A Wider Circle’s Ward 8 Hub) hosted its much-anticipated Annual Senior Prom. I was fortunate not only to attend this festive event for the 40-and-up crowd, but also to help style some lovely ladies for it. There was dancing, food, lots of laughter, and, of course, plenty of unique sparkly prom looks!
Today, I’ll highlight two wonderful community members whose stunning looks were red carpet worthy.
Kathy
First up is Kathy, who may be petite in stature, but is fearless when it comes to style.

I saw this stunning aqua dress in Kathy’s size and squealed in delight because I knew it would be perfect for her. A fabulous statement necklace with aqua accents, a beaded bag, and some sparkly sandals completed Kathy’s knockout look from head to toe.
Kathy’s spectacular look brings me to today’s first Gem by Jen:
An event like prom is the perfect opportunity to HAVE FUN with fashion! Bold statement necklaces, sequins, ruffles, sparkles… or basic black, if you prefer. Whether you make a huge statement or go low-key, it’s a great chance to get creative with whatever YOU feel most comfortable wearing!
Angie
Next up is Angie! Angie is a devoted community member and essential volunteer at the Ward 8 Hub who helps ensure clothing, toiletries, and market bags are distributed to our clients.

Angie, after being Styled by Jen
Angie saw this gorgeous gold gown and immediately knew it was “the one!” The exquisite detail on the shoulders served as built-in jewelry, so the dress didn’t need much in terms of accessories for it to shine. And speaking of shining, Angie looked breathtaking in her gown, ready for “Oscar Gold!” Her look was complete with a matching gold bag and gold eye shadow.
And yes, ding ding ding, time for one more Gem by Jen:
Angie’s look is a perfect example of how to complement — but not overpower — a glamorous gown. The beading and jewels on the dress would have competed with a bold statement necklace or huge earrings, taking away from the overall look. There is such a thing as too much bling, but Angie had the perfect amount of sparkle!

I had a blast at the Senior Prom and can’t wait for next year, where the looks are sure to wow once again!
