Job Summary
The Volunteer Coordinator will support the Volunteer Department. Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to leading scheduling, orientation, tours, training, education, and service of both individuals and groups of volunteers; administrative tasks; and serving as lead on special projects to ensure the smooth functioning of the Volunteer Program at A Wider Circle.

Essential functions/Primary responsibilities
Supporting Volunteers
- Provide orientations, tours, training, and supervision for individual and group volunteers.
- Provide volunteers with instructions for their service (e.g., provide support when needed, approve and restock non-furniture items for our Essential Support program).
Continuous Learning
- Continue to learn about the issue of poverty to present volunteers with current information on the subject, our organization, and the greater movement.
- Make professional development a priority and complete steps to reaching identified professional development goals each year, not including any mandatory team or agency-wide training.
Administrative
- Assist with scheduling, communication, follow-up, and Development integration of corporate and other groups of volunteers.
- Perform administrative tasks such as phone calls and emails related to volunteer recruitment, data management, and verification of service hours.
- Ensure that our showroom is stocked with non-furniture dignity condition items for clients to choose from.
Relationships
- Build relationships with and involve volunteers in opportunities that will deepen their engagement and lead to volunteers becoming ambassadors of the organization.
- Work to create and maintain a harmonious environment that builds a sense of community and brings volunteers together in our mission.
Beautification
- Ensure that our showroom is stocked with non-furniture dignity condition items for clients to choose from.
- Assist with keeping sorting sections organized.
Outreach
- Attend speaking engagements, fairs, and other events to educate on poverty issues, recruit volunteers, and present our work.
- Contribute to the strategic planning and execution of the strategic plan for both the Volunteer team and the larger movement to end poverty we work within.
Required Skills /Abilities
- Public speaking
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Volunteer experience or volunteer management
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced and, at times, stressful environment
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Comprehension of safety policies and procedures
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize tasks/projects to meet deadlines
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
Work environment
The Volunteer Coordinator will work in a warehouse environment and an office setting.
Physical demands
Capable of moving about the warehouse for multiple hours and being seated at the computer for the remainder of the day. Must be able to withstand a variety of changing weather conditions, as the warehouse is not fully temperature controlled.

Travel required
A car and driver’s license are required. Local travel, generally within a 30-minute drive, is required on occasion to attend events.
Required education and experience
- Pursuing or completing an Associates Degree
- Two years of work at a social justice, human services, or social service-related organization.
- Public speaking
Preferred Education and experience
- Fluency in Spanish
- Experience with managing volunteers
- Experience working with individuals and families living in poverty.
