Ward 8 Hub FAQs
The Ward 8 Hub, located in Washington Highlands, is a safe and welcoming space that offers tangible support, social support, wellness programing, mental health services, and resource navigation to neighbors in the community. Everyone is welcome at the Ward 8 Hub and there are no costs or requirements.

Note: Our entrance is on Condon Terrace below the “A Wider Circle” sign on the building. We are in the “Highland 24” residential building at the intersection of Condon Terrace, Atlantic Street, and 4th Street SE.
Driving? Free street parking is typically available on Condon Terrace and other nearby streets.
Taking public transit? Immediately in front of our entrance are the northbound and southbound stops for the A2 bus ( see timetable), which connects us to the Anacostia and Southern Avenue Metro stations on WMATA’s Green Line. The W1 bus stop ( see timetable) is a block away, which connects us to the Congress Heights station, TheARC, and more.
Our core service hours are 9:00 am-4:00 pm Monday-Thursday.
No. There are no costs, qualifications, or eligibility criteria; anyone can use our resources.
- We provide clothing, diapers, food, and toiletries to anyone who needs them, no appointment needed
- We are a Narcan distribution site, no appointment needed
- We offer free drop-in workshops, Monday-Thursday, no appointment needed
- We provide mental health services by appointment
- We offer resource navigation services, no appointment needed
- We offer individual and group career counseling and coaching; appointments are recommended when our specialists are on site Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays
- We partner with other local groups to offer community events, celebrations, resource fairs, and more
- We fund projects for community-led change through our annual micro-grants competition

We offer group sessions and workshops Monday through Thursday, on various topics related to wellbeing. Many of our workshops also include healthy foods and beverages.
Our typical schedule is as follows:
- Mondays at 9:30 am | Ward 8 Hub Walking Club
- Mondays at 1:00 pm| Art Circle (materials provided)
- Tuesdays at 11:30 am | Talk It Out Tuesday (group mental health session)
- Wednesdays at 12:00 pm | Wellness Wednesday (exercise/fitness group)
- Thursdays at 11:00 am | Highland Recovery Group (a safe space for those looking for support in their recovery process)
- Thursdays at 12:00 pm | Hand Dance Class at the Highlands Community Center (662 Atlantic Street SE)

We offer individual psychotherapy services by appointment, free of charge. Children, teens, and adults are welcome to consider therapy to focus on solutions to common stressors, improve coping strategies, and find a safe, non-judgmental space to process life situations. Confidentiality is guaranteed by law and therapy interns are supervised by a licensed clinician. Appointments are available both in person and online through telehealth.

It can be hard to figure out where and how to get the support you need. Our team can help you find appropriate support resources for housing, legal concerns, healthcare, childcare, and other needs. No appointment is needed.
Our Partnership to Independence (P2I) Program is a 3-to-5-year program offering long-term, intensive, multi-generational support to families in Washington Highlands and surrounding areas who are facing barriers to stability.
The initiative focuses on helping individuals living with low incomes achieve success related to employment and professional development, financial management, stable housing, and health and well-being.
The first cohort of the P2I program is now entering its fifth and final year. The second cohort launched in February 2023, and is based at our Ward 8 Hub.

Community microgrants are yearly grants offered by the Ward 8 Hub to Washington Highlands community members with proposals to enrich the neighborhood. Proposals are considered and selected by a committee of neighborhood residents, and funded by A Wider Circle. Learn about our most recent community microgrants here.

We are a community-based organization located in Washington Highlands, but our resources are open for anyone to use. We provide services for anyone in need of support or community.
