Well Mother, Well Baby Program
Program
Mission
For
many girls growing up in low-income environments,
motherhood arrives too soon – often limiting choices
and perpetuating the cycles of poverty. Children of teen
mothers are at
greater risk of childhood illness and lack of educational
opportunities than their peers.
We believe motherhood is a gift and a responsibility.
The
Well Mother, Well Baby Program is an educational and
outreach initiative preparing pregnant teens for a healthy
pregnancy and a bright future. Our aim is to empower our
participants to develop healthy behaviors,
make their own positive choices, and be the best
parents they can be.
Expected outcomes include:
- Delivery of a healthy baby
- Improved self-esteem
for mother and child
- Enhanced health and wellness
knowledge and behaviors
- Pursuit of a positive future
| Weekly classes include:
- Parenting skills
- Breast feeding
- Infant massage
- Financial mangement
- Nutrition
- Child safety

A Wider Circle provides each mom with a
graduation baby shower at which she will receive basic need
items for herself and her baby (cribs, strollers, diapers,
clothing, etc.). After the final baby shower, the program
continues on through the participants’ relationships with
their “mentor moms” – experienced mothers who provide support,
advice, and friendship during and after the pregnancy.
If you are interested in donating items for the baby shower,

list. If you are interested in leading a workshop or
being a 'mentor mom', call our office at (301) 608-3504.
