We remember many people this weekend, those who gave much for our freedom. For those who survived war and/or service in one of our armed forces, the return to civilian life can be nightmarish.
That is why A Wider Circle holds four veterans days each year (O.N.E.). On Wednesday, we have our second “Veterans Day” of the year, and 10 formerly homeless veterans who now have housing will come to A Wider Circle to get much-needed support to fill those homes. We also have a wonderful breakfast for those who come. One veteran just told us that she will be bringing her friends (including another veteran) so they can enjoy the breakfast – and the day – with her.
The stories of these veterans are similar to those we hear as we serve each day here. They come to us with, literally, nothing, and when they leave our center on Wednesday, we plan to ensure they go to sleep that night in homes with comfortable beds, couches, tables and chairs, dishes, pots and pans, cutlery, etc.
New items or gently used items (furniture or home goods) in great condition are always appreciated and can be sent or dropped off seven days a week. Here is an extended wish list for the day.
We will be here Saturday, Sunday and Monday, per usual, to receive items and prepare for this special day.
It is a great way to honor the memories of those who have passed and to help those who are with us this Memorial Day.
